Improvisation 101 (Chatswood – Wednesday 12 February 2025)

$210.00 INC GST

This is just the first 4 weeks of our 9 week beginners Improv 1 class, for those who are time poor or not sure about taking an improv class. If you love it (you will!), you can do the other 5 weeks with our Improvisation 101 Extension class.

This is our shortened 4 week beginners class and the start of our core curriculum. There’s no better way to learn improvisation.

We introduce improvisation, confidence skills, storytelling and comedy, presentation skills and the beginnings of improv, in a fun, stress free and practical, 4 week class. Completely designed for first timers, young and old, from the quiet ones to the more confident. (no experienced improvisors allowed! no “natural talent” required!)

You’ll learn how improvisation and spontaneity works and uncover skills you didn’t know you had. You’ll learn how to be more confident, have more fun, be better able to adapt to changing environments and situations, be a better listener and communicator, and to be positive and productive with the unknown.

Every Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 9pm (running for 2.5 hours), 12, 19, 26 February, 5 March 2025.

  • Location details given after class fee is paid. See Class locations.
  • Requires proof of double dose vaccination.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Description

This is our shortened 4 week beginners class and the start of our core curriculum. If you have the time, we instead recommend our 9 week Improv 1 class, which is also less cost than taking this class followed by our 5 week Improvisation 101 Extension class.

You’ll remember how fun it was to be a child, taking away games and techniques which will improve the confidence and ability of your children, family and friends.

This class is fairly active, and you’ll be on your feet the whole time, playing games and fun exercises which highlight the practical uses of improvisation in your life, work and play.

Weekly lessons are similar to a language or pottery class — each week we build on what you did the previous week, but there’s no homework or other out of class requirements, just turn up to each lesson and have fun. You can repeat it as many times as you wish, and there’s no pressure to step up to our more advanced classes in theatrical improv and improv comedy.

This class is unique to AOI. No other school simplifies improvisation for newcomers like we do. Which is not surprising when our principal literally wrote the book on how improvisation works.
